in reply to: Bequeathal Officers Meeting #942Hello Everyone,
I hope that you had a great Christmas!
Just in case you have not seen it, I have attached a copy below of a paragraph from the most recent HTA newsletter which you may find interesting. This is a result of the Bequeathal Officers meeting that we held in September and the subsequent PGaPAC meeting that we had with the HTA. Lets hope that this makes things easier.
Hopefully in the New Year we will be able to send out the details of the next meeting.
Happy New Year!
Best wishes
Wendy :)
‘Consent for anatomical examination’
Following feedback from recent meetings, we would like to remind our stakeholders of wording that represents valid consent to body donation for anatomical examination. For consent obtained after the Human Tissue Act 2004 (HT Act) came into force, it is essential that the consent is valid and declares that the deceased wished to donate their body for ‘anatomical examination.’ The HT Act makes a distinction between the scheduled purpose for research and that of ‘anatomical examination.’For consent obtained before the implementation of the HT Act, DIs should continue to judge any ambiguous donation on a case-by-case basis, considering the consent framework in place at the time of donation. For more information please visit our website.
in reply to: Bequeathal Officers Meeting at UCL #935Hello Everyone,
Following a recent request I have reattached the minutes from the PGaPAC meeting held with the HTA.
Points 4 and 7 are particularly relevant as these were raised at the last bequeathal officers meeting.
Just to let you know we have already started to plan speakers for the next meeting, I will let you know as soon as these details are finalised.
Hope that you are all keeping well.
Best wishes
Wendy :)

in reply to: Future IAS meetings #837Hello,
I feel we ought to visit Ireland again to prevent our Irish members from feeling left out.
September is the best time for us to attend the Autumn meeting as we are busy most of July and August. September also means the meetings are spaced out (in time!!!):)
Can we do Keele the following year, then Scotland the year after?
UCL can host a Spring meeting if a venue is required.

in reply to: Porti Boy Embalming pump #758:D Ha ha I remember the days of the woofer!
I even have one of those rubber bulb hand pumps somewhere.
We use a persistaltic pump at UCL, I think they are great no mess – just stick a plastic tube in the top of the fluid container and press the on button.

in reply to: Porti Boy Embalming pump #752Hello,
Make sure the porti-boy is phenol proof. Some of them have parts that dissolve!
