A link for the Autumn meeting in Keele.
in reply to: Equipment Recommendations Required #994Reply sent through webmaster.
Dear Lisa,
Attached please find a list of the hoists & lift used in the Anatomical Sciences laboratory at the University of Southampton 3183-3185 and H2574 are scissors hoists. 7007ES is a LEEC Golvo lift.
We have an AEW Thurne Bandsaw.
All the equipment listed I would recommend with the exception of the H2574 which is small and of limited use.
The hoists and Golvo are serviced/LOLER inspected by LIKO and insured by Zurich. All using a six months inspection interval.
The bandsaw serviced by AEW Delford.I hope this is of some help.
Best wishes

If you are going to halve the cadaver anyway, why not do so when the person is frozen? A bandsaw does prefer frozen, certainly a cleaner cut.
The problem with thaw refreeze is cell damage from ice crystals. If you do refreeze the next time you thaw the tissue it will not last as long, as the cell membrane is likely to have been damaged. Out for a day and a half it should be fine though.
I know from experience that repeated thaw refreeze, creates mush. Wonder if that would be a good skeleton production method, not tried that.

in reply to: Formaldehyde #896Hi
We still use gas detection tubes with a hand pump. Our H&S seem OK with this as long as our air handling is working. We only test once a week in several locations, to maintain an audit trail. We normally have a reading of <0.05ppm.
This week, I was testing standing next to 20 coffins, 15 were empty and the other 5 sealed, containing non formaldehyde embalmed cadavers. The reading was 0.1ppm. MMh Chipboard. I wonder what the formaldehyde reading in a new build house would be??

Thanks for sending the paperwork.
