Hi both,
We have received the med school one too from the consultancy firm. Our DI is responding to them- only answering the questions she wants to as they do ask a lot which we think maybe against GDPR.Carys
in reply to: Embalming donations in the current climate #3492We are doing the same in terms of asking more specific questions when accepting and FFP3 PPE
But as we also work on fresh material we are looking into the possibility of testing also.Carys
Hi Natasha,
We normally run a potting workshop here but we haven’t got enough pots now to run one. I’ve had 4 people email via the website asking for one so there is definitely interest. I’m sure a couple of my guys and Steve Gaze would love to run one in Birmingham with you if they are available. we have talked about this before that they could run one at a different institute as we have no pots left to fix! We have a set plan of what we do and know what we need for a group of 10 delegates if that is useful. Email me if you want to discuss further.
Im sure a prosecting one would be appealing to many too.
in reply to: Blood in llama vertebrae – removal methods?? #2852we always use hydrogen peroxide for bleaching/cleaning bones.
Hi Rachel,
Sorry for the delayed response, have only just logged in.
For equipment used on embalmed material we just use good quality disinfectant ( surgial standard) . For equipment used in our fresh frozen suite we have a very good instrument washer and we also autoclave kit if its stuff from a course lent by reps that will then go off site .Carys
in reply to: Ventilation #1455Hi Sarah,
We embalm our large species by gravity feed in our large prep room which is all ventilated by the air handling unit that runs both the Vet Dissection room and the prep room. 15 air changes a minute.
The standard PPE is worn , gloves ,wellies, lab coats or overalls. Full face respirators worn when decanting the embalming solution in barrel, but not needed in the room during the process as the air changes are adequate.
Carysin reply to: Specimen printer and labels. #1412Sorry , meant Bob, not Rob!
in reply to: Specimen printer and labels. #1411Hi Rob,
We print labels using a dymo label maker and then inset these labels into patient id bracelets that hospitals use. They last really well in our storage tanks . Not forever , but years.
