Mentorship Scheme

The Journal of the Institute of Anatomical Sciences wants to encourage the publication and dissemination of good scientific practice. To help we have introduced a mentor scheme for the Journal of the IAS. This scheme assigns mentors from within the IAS to willing authors before the review stage to help authors construct a submission ready manuscript. We believe this scheme will greatly benefit authors and should result in more manuscripts being accepted within a submission cycle. You can ask for a mentor by contacting the editors at any stage of the process; from a small idea to getting a draft manuscript checked over.

Please be aware however, that the mentor’s contributions should be acknowledged within the manuscript and, depending on the level of support required, this may include authorship on the paper if the contribution meets contribution criteria outlined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. See below.

The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Recommendations for Authorship

Named authors on submitted manuscripts should have fulfilled the criteria listed below.

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  • Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  • Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
