This allows members to complete a portfolio and
collect accreditation points and progress through
the levels of membership.

Certificate of Anatomical Technology and
Science (CATS) – Up to a maximum of 50 Accreditation points
Candidates must complete a self assessment of their duties,
followed by a Viva Voce examination in their place of work.
A team of assessors will then award Accreditation
Points up to a maximum of 50.
The form is easy to complete and in itself is a
qualification awarded by the IAS.
It can also be viewed as a starting point for the IAS
Diploma. This
award is open to all IAS members.

Diploma of Anatomical Technology and Science
(DATS) – Up to a maximum of 500 Accreditation points
The Diploma is a qualification for technical staff that is
intended to be achieved alongside the duties in their
workplace. This is a more in-depth qualification, allowing candidates to develop
theoretical, practical and technical experience associated
with anatomy and its related subjects. This award is open to
all IAS members.

Diploma of Anatomical Technology and Science
via Accumulated Experience (DATS-AE) – Up to a maximum of
500 Accreditation points
This qualification allows for learning gained through
practical experience and past study to be recognised.
Modules are completed by filling in a questionnaire
and adapting the notes to self assess and justify your own
personal experience. A team of assessors will carry
out a formal assessment of evidence, skills and knowledge,
before the points are awarded. This assessment will take the
form of a viva voce examination in the candidate’s
workplace. At
present, this award is limited to IAS Members of 10 years or
more experience.

Dr. Donal
Shanahan has developed a postgraduate certificate in
applied anatomy at Northumbria University. This
programme will consist of two online modules and a
one week summer school and is aimed at health
professionals or those involved in anatomy
education. The postgraduate certificate in applied
anatomy is now fully validated and will run from
September 2009.
