Institute of Anatomical Sciences

Qualifications & Enrolment resources

The IAS is committed to helping members to gain further practical experience and develop new skills.  This allows members to complete a portfolio and collect accreditation points and progress through the levels of membership.  Please contact the IAS Education Officer or any IAS Council member for information on any of the available qualifications.

Certificate of Anatomical Technology and Science (CATS) – Up to a maximum of 50 Accreditation points

Candidates must complete a self assessment of their duties, followed by a Viva Voce examination in their place of work.  A team of assessors will then award Accreditation Points up to a maximum of 50.  The form is easy to complete and in itself is a qualification awarded by the IAS.  It can also be viewed as a starting point for the IAS Diploma.  This award is open to all IAS members.

Diploma of Anatomical Technology and Science (DATS) – Up to a maximum of 500 Accreditation points

The Diploma is a qualification for technical staff that is intended to be achieved alongside the duties in their workplace. This is a more in-depth qualification, allowing candidates to develop theoretical, practical and technical experience associated with anatomy and its related subjects. This award is open to all IAS members.

Diploma of Anatomical Technology and Science via Accumulated Experience (DATS-AE) – Up to a maximum of 500 Accreditation points

This qualification allows for learning gained through practical experience and past study to be recognised.  Modules are completed by filling in a questionnaire and adapting the notes to self assess and justify your own personal experience. A team of assessors will carry out a formal assessment of evidence, skills and knowledge, before the points are awarded. This assessment will take the form of a viva voce examination in the candidate’s workplace.  At present, this award is limited to IAS Members of 10 years or more experience.
